Location: On-site at a partner school; varies by assignment
Start Date: Rolling openings based on school schedules

Position Overview
Concorde Education is seeking an engaging, student-centered Anime Club Instructor to facilitate a short-format after-school enrichment course for students. This course provides an interactive space where students can explore and appreciate anime as both an art form and a cultural phenomenon through guided viewing, discussion, media analysis, and creative expression.

Instruction should be age-appropriate and school-appropriate, with clear norms for respectful discussion, inclusive community-building, and responsible media selection aligned to site policies. The instructor will deliver instruction one day per week for approximately one hour across a typical 10-week cycle, with pacing adapted to student needs and site logistics.

What You Will Teach
Students will watch and discuss a variety of anime genres and learn how to analyze storytelling techniques, character development, animation styles, and thematic depth. The course also introduces the history of anime, its influence on global pop culture, and connections to Japanese culture and traditions. Sessions incorporate structured discussion routines, short analysis activities, and creative projects that deepen student engagement and appreciation.

Major Topics Can Include

  • Norms for media discussion and respectful critique
  • Anime as an art form: visual style, animation techniques, and sound design
  • Story structure, pacing, and narrative devices
  • Character development, motivations, and character arcs
  • Themes, symbolism, and genre conventions
  • History of anime and major milestones (introductory overview)
  • Global influence of anime and connections to broader pop culture
  • Connections to Japanese culture and traditions (introductory, respectful exploration)
  • Media literacy skills: perspective, bias, audience, and responsible viewing
  • Creative expression inspired by anime (fan art, writing, design, multimedia)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a 10-session club-style course with engaging facilitation and clear weekly objectives
  • Curate or implement school-approved, age-appropriate anime clips/media selections in alignment with site guidance
  • Lead structured discussions that build student voice, listening skills, and respectful dialogue
  • Facilitate creative activities and projects connected to course themes
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive environment that supports positive peer interaction and community-building
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde program contacts regarding attendance and session completion tracking
  • Adapt pacing and activities to match student interests and readiness while maintaining intended learning outcomes

Qualifications (Required)

  • Minimum of 60 college credits (or Associate degree in progress/completed)
  • Familiarity with anime genres and the ability to facilitate media analysis at an age-appropriate level
  • Experience working with school-age students in structured settings (school, camp, after-school, tutoring, youth programs)
  • Strong facilitation skills, discussion leadership, and classroom presence
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional; able to follow school policies and program boundaries
  • Comfort supporting creative projects (traditional or digital) and guiding collaborative group work
