Job Description

: OVERVIEW The Staff Accountant II is a mid-level position responsible for all SVdP revenue reporting including Thrift Store financial reporting, analyzing financial data, preparing financial reports and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures in support of the SVdP mission. Employees in positions allocated to this level of the series are experienced accountants who apply fundamental accounting principles and practices to a variety of responsible accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and/or other fiscal functions. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required. They work under general supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Revenue Accounting, Analyses and Reporting:
  • Prepares daily cash receipts reports
  • Performs cash flow analysis
  • Forecasts cash receipts based on historical and same store sales
  • Plans, collects, and analyzes data to determine cost of business activity such as material, purchases, inventory, and labor
  • Performs inventory reconciliation, ledger entries and cost analyses
  • Assists in establishing and organizing processes for achieving budget, cost control and reduction
  • Other duties as assigned
General Accounting:
  • Performs month-end closing to include vouchers, payout receipts, expenses, sales/deposits, inventory, administrative overhead, and P&L
  • Reviews budget vs. actuals
  • Analyzes revenue/expenditure trends; recommends appropriate budgets and ensures expenditure controls
Continuous Improvement under LEAN
  • Knows the eight wastes (over-production, transportation, inventory, defects, over-processing, excess movement, Customer waiting time, wasted employee potential)
  • Identifies and acts on opportunities for operational improvements within work area
  • Identifies and participates in eliminating waste
  • Shares expertise and knowledge to support growth and development of others enabling them to grow and improve in performance

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting
  • Six (6) years of progressively more responsible work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories and practices used in accountancy and was of such scope, level and quality as to assure the applicant's overall ability to undertake mid-level professional accounting work. Such experience and/or on-the-job training must be evaluated on the basis of its comparability to a normal curriculum in the academic program listed in Education above. (Up to three (3) years may be substituted for and/or added together with the Education requirements listed above.)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of:
    • Generally accepted accounting principles (Broad level)
    • MS Office skills (Intermediate level)
    • Exposure to automated data processing system (QuickBooks preferred)
    • Office methods and procedures (Broad level)
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Evaluate more difficult accounting problems and to analyze and interpret more difficult accounting records and reports
    • Perform detailed work involving written or numerical calculations rapidly and accurately
    • Prepare difficult accounting records and reports completely and accurately
    • Operation of office accounting machines and equipment
    • Analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves
    • Work effectively with a team
    • Prepare and reconcile daily sales and inventory financial postings
    • Communicating, orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
    • Organization and collaboration
  • Physical:
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
    • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear
    • Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
