Pay Grade: 29N

Location: Lewes, DE Campus

Schedule: M-F 7am - 3:30pm

 

Context of Job:

Under general supervision, performs skilled work at the journeyman level. Inspects, maintains, adjusts and makes repairs to the complete HVAC and electrical systems. The principal emphasis is on the use of skills and knowledge of both preventive and applied maintenance techniques to overcome difficult technical problems. Independent judgment is required to start and stop a number of jobs following a non-routine schedule.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Installs and conducts preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, air compressors, fans, air conditioning and heating equipment and other devices including refrigeration systems.
  • Performs inspection maintenance and repair work on both primary distribution and emergency power systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots electrical equipment, motors, belts, pulleys, valves, fans, condensers, evaporator coils, etc.
  • Installs new electrical lights, receptacles, switches, controls, air conditioning units and ducts.
  • Maintains ice machines, water baths, air pumps, chilled and heated seawater systems to include pumps, heat exchangers and cooling and heating equipment, water purification system and LP gas units.
  • Inspects and tests maintenance machinery and equipment for good running operation; repairs units as needed; orders parts.
  • Assists faculty, staff and students with electrical, heating and cooling requirements for research.
  • Assists in scheduling preventive maintenance, keeps service records and maintains time sheets.
  • Assists the maintenance team on various projects, such as: carpentry, plumbing, snow removal, grounds and general maintenance.
    Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with five years' HVAC or electrical experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction specifications.
  • Experience with a large variety of hand tools and special tools such as amp meters, voltmeters, megometers, airflow devices, refrigeration gauges, vacuum pumps and other test equipment.
  • Ability to plan work projects and review work of completed job sites.
  • Ability to assess problems and take corrective action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
