Role Overview

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office seeks attorneys dedicated to public service, public safety, and fairness and justice for all who come into contact with the criminal justice system. The Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Deputy Prosecutor is dedicated solely to the comprehensive disposition (from screening through sentencing) of all juvenile domestic violence and sexual assault cases where intimate or dating partner violence is the driving force behind the violence. This includes acts of physical violence as well as threats, property destruction and the use of technology. The Deputy Prosecutor will also give presentations to school-aged youth and community organizations.

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $85,000.00, but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

​The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Screen, file, and prosecute domestic violence and sex crimes cases that fall within the guidelines of the grant.
• Develop/refine a screening tool to be used to assess the victims of all juvenile justice system cases involving physical and sexual assault crimes to determine whether they have intimate partner violence or dating violence components, and adjudicate all such cases.
• Develop a database for tracking details and dispositions.
• Work with law enforcement, juvenile probation, court, and other community partners to identify appropriate offender resources on a case-by-case basis.
• Determine whether additional interventions are appropriate, and make proper referrals so that younger children in the offender’s home do not follow the same path.
• Work as a liaison with Marion County schools, youth agencies, and law enforcement agencies.
• Inform community partners on obtaining enforceable protective orders.
• Conduct educational sessions to law enforcement officers, school-aged youth, and members of community organizations.
• Other duties as requested within the confines of the grant.

 

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • J.D. Degree from an accredited law school and a member of good standing of the Indiana bar
  • Experienced in sex crimes and/or domestic violence with 3-5 years of experience. Candidates with less than three years of prosecutorial experience may still apply. 
  • Experience in prosecuting juvenile offenses.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
