Senior Game Designer, 20th Century GamesJob DescriptionCome work with 20th Century Games as a Senior Game Designer! As a full-time cast member within the Disney Games Group, you will draw upon your extensive game design experience by helping games come to life using 20th Century’s properties. Whereas at a game studio your job requires hands-on work with an engine, tools, and various assets, in this role you will be primarily reviewing and collaborating with several game projects at any given time that work with one of 20th Century’s licenses. Your goal is to help these projects embody the larger brand vision and quality standards of 20th Century Games.The ideal person for this role is a person with a deep knowledge of game design and enjoys communicating and collaborating with people. They should be good at switching gears throughout the day and anticipate the needs of the 20th Century team and the partners they work with. They should have experience communicating with high-level studio and project leadership, as well as collaborating with a project’s staff at any and every level of experience. They must be nimble at navigating unexpected and frequent changes in direction or trajectory.What You Will Do:Work closely with the Creative Lead on project feedback to help our partner studios succeed in passing milestones, gates, and deadlines to the quality bar expected for approval by:Engaging in proper review, feedback, approval, and communication pipelinesReviewing all gameplay mechanics, systems, assets, milestone builds, and documentation from game studios for brand and qualitative approvalConveying regular feedback in various forms through every phase of the development cycle, depending on the project’s needsAiding studios in maintaining project and gameplay pillars, identity, and conventions to ensure the games feel on brand and elevate our gaming portfolioBeing a consistent and reliable resource of brand and gameplay information for the studios we work withAttend regular meetings and sync with game directors, creative leads, gameplay leads, staff, etc.Assist the product manager of individual game projects as they guide submission workflows, deadlines, wider project communication, and team-wide responses to milestones and submissionsInternally maintain and communicate consistent conventions and benchmarks for gameplay systems, features, and assets that should be consistently applied across all projectsKeep up to date on industry standards and skillsets related to the projects 20th Century Games have on their slateBasic Qualifications And Skills: Game DesignFive years of game design/game development experience or at least two full project cycles Experience and expertise in two or more of the following design disciplines:Combat designLevel designSystems designProgression designArea designQuest or mission designTechnical gameplay designEncounter designUI/UX designWorking knowledge of game engines and other game design tools, including Unreal, Unity, or various proprietary enginesWorked with a variety of game genres, gameplay modes, and stylesThis role will require travel domestically and will require a valid and current acceptable form of identification necessary for travel guidelines.Preferred Skills:Experience in management (or mentorship), leadership, teaching, or another profession dealing with feedback, management, and conflict resolutionPrior experience working with Licensed Intellectual Property and knowledge of Disney-owned IPs, particularly 20th Century IPs such as Alien, Predator, The Simpsons, etc.Experience working with external arms of development such as licensing, publishing, marketing, and biz-devPreferred Education:Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience in the gaming industryOur Benefits: Disney offers a rewards package to help you live your best life. The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $105,100.00 to $140,900.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
