Microsoft Dynamics GP Upgrade Consultant

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Dynamics GP consultant to lead a phased upgrade from GP 2013 to GP 2018. This short-term contract requires a hands-on specialist able to assess the current environment, design a robust upgrade plan across multiple releases, execute database and customization migrations, and stabilize production through go-live and hypercare.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the GP 2013 environment, customizations, third-party add-ons, and SQL Server compatibility.
• Design and document an 8-release phased upgrade plan with rollback and risk mitigation procedures.
• Validate upgrade paths, apply prerequisite hotfixes/service packs, and run GP Utilities as required.
• Perform SQL Server database upgrades, backups, pre-upgrade scripting, and table conversions.
• Migrate or rebuild Dexterity, VBA, Modifier objects, reports, and integrations.
• Upgrade and reconfigure Management Reporter, Web Services, eConnect, Integration Manager, and SSRS reports.
• Coordinate testing across DEV → TEST → UAT → PROD and support user acceptance testing.
• Troubleshoot upgrade blockers, conversion errors, security issues, and post-upgrade defects.
• Deliver runbooks, knowledge transfer, and post-go-live hypercare support.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft Dynamics GP experience with at least two full upgrade cycles, including GP 2013 → GP 2016/2018 scenarios.
• Strong knowledge of GP architecture (Dexterity runtime, DYNAMICS.set, system & company DBs) and GP Utilities.
• Proficient in SQL Server and T-SQL: backup/restore, jobs, and DB-level troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and modify Dexterity code, VBA, and Modifier customizations; experience rebuilding modified forms and reports.
• Familiarity with Management Reporter, SmartList Designer, SSRS, eConnect, Integration Manager, and common ISV solutions (Mekorma, Binary Stream).
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to produce client-ready documentation independently.
• Nice-to-have: PowerShell scripting for automation and experience advising on migrations to Dynamics 365 Business Central.
